safe, inclusive and private sessions for all
Walking into a tattoo studio can be awkward, vulnerable and intimidating (we've been there!). That's why we are always working to make our studio feel as comfortable as possible for everyone; especially folks who are anxious or find new / social situations difficult.
If you have any specific questions about your own needs or access requirements, drop us an email or message.

home from home
The Studio is our 'home away from home' and the way we decorate reflects that!
You'll find comfy seats, lovely houseplants, colours that make us happy, and plenty of
geeky paraphernalia.
We'll do our best to keep the pictures you see here up to date, but (being awesomely ADHD!) we also change it up fairly often too. If you want to visit the studio, or see an up to date photo, before your session you absolutely can. We guarantee it is always going to feel cosy,
nerdy and welcoming.

physical access needs
-
The studio has step free access and our doorways and walkways are all wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs.
-
Our toilet has handrails, however the toilet itself is a small space.
-
We can provide measurements of rooms and routes in the studio if needed.
-
Always happy to discuss adjustments we can make to the session to suit your body/physical needs.
autism, ADHD and other neurodivergences
-
We are neurospicy and bring our full neurodivergent self to the studio... we hope you will too!
-
Bring your fidgets, headphones, sunglasses, devices, books, blankets, pillows, soft toys; anything that makes you safe and relaxed.
-
There's no pressure for you to talk during our session or to make eye contact with us.
-
We're also comfortable to talk about special interests, to dive in and have deep chats if that's
what feels good. -
Happy to adjust the temperature or set up a fan for you; just tell us if you're too hot or cold.
-
We often have music on in the studio but can turn it off if you prefer.
-
If you prefer quiet and are having a longer session, we might wear headphones to help us concentrate.
-
The Big Lights can be on or off; we can use a ring light of head torch to see clearly if needed.
-
We often have incense sticks burning in the studio. If that bothers you, just let us know before you arrive and we won't burn any that day.
-
If it would help to bring a support person with you, that's fine; they can sit with you, as long as it doesn't impact the tattooing.
-
If it helps to feel more prepared for your tattoo session, read our 'Tattoo Day' download.

lgbtqia+
-
Your sexuality and gender will always be respected and celebrated in our studio.
-
We will ask for your pronouns on your enquiry form and use them.
-
Our bathroom is gender neutral.
-
We are members of the Safe Space Alliance and listed with Safe Space High Peak.
privacy
"Mim was recommended to me as a neurodivergent/queer friendly tattoo artist and I will absolutely be recommending her to anyone and everyone - and definitely coming back myself! I felt so comfortable (even if it meant me singing through the pain for several hours!) Thank you so so much!!"
-
Our appointments are single client as standard; one tattooist with one client.
-
The studio door can be locked or unlocked. Locking will ensure no-one walks in with enquiries/deliveries etc.
-
We have screens that can be set up to block the view from the waiting area/window either completely
or partially.

"I can highly recommend Underwood Tattoos. They were very professional, great customer service and extremely accommodating with me being neurodivergent, ensuring there was a comfortable atmosphere while getting tattooed. I'm also very happy with the final results, they look fantastic!"
